This area is one of Cumbria’s best-kept secrets. It’s ideal for walking and cycling and offers fishing on the River Eden. Nearby attractions worth a visit include the 13th-century Brougham Castle, built as a barrier against Scots invaders. This is a fascinating castle with passages and spiral staircases to explore, and scenic views from the top of the keep. Also worth a visit is Acorn Bank House, Garden and Watermill with a partly restored watermill, and 17th century walled fruit orchard and herb garden.
