The city of Freiburg is situated in the warmest region of Germany, surrounded by vineyards and the famous Black Forest. Freiburg boasts an environmentally conscious mayor, the production of internationally successful solar manufacturers and an active community of anti-nuclear activists. Little wonder then, that Freiburg has been given the world – recognized moniker of “Green City”. Furthermore, the majority of the 220,000 inhabitants choose to get around by bicycle. Quick and easy travel is not only limited to the city centre; the French border is roughly 20km away, and the Swiss border only 60km. Besides its iconic gothic cathedral the Freiburger Münster and its Bächle (small canals in the city) Freiburg offers a wealth of cultural attractions, such as theatres, concerts, museums and historical structures. Moreover, the striking and famous Black Forest is just on the front door step. One can enjoy the scenic heights of the Schauinsland with just a short cable car ride.
